A Little Bag of Fizzy Ribbons

Yesterday evening I was in the supermarket buying a few essentials. I know, riveting stuff!

In the queue at the next cashier was a young woman holding a single item: a little bag of fizzy ribbons. The ones that make your mouth water.

It made me smile because I relate very much to that single item comfort purchase.

It’s been a long day. You go to the shop and you know exactly what you want. The one thing that will make everything feel just a bit better.

It doesn’t matter if it isn’t “healthy”.

It doesn’t matter that you need to queue for 20 minutes at the cashier.

It doesn’t matter that some random British woman is going to write about you the next day.

All that matters is the pure joy of that first bite of pure delight coated in citric acid and sugar.

Or the first spoonful of ice cream for dinner.

Or the first page of that trashy magazine that is telling you about the latest Z-list celebrity drama.

My personal “little bag of fizzy ribbons” is usually a big bag of salt and vinegar crisps. What’s yours?
